Major opposition to forest service proposal to weaken conservation rule

Today, the U.S. Forest Service held the final public hearing on a proposal to exempt Alaska’s rustic Tongass National Forest from the 2001 Roadless Rule. A wide variety of environmental, taxpayer and other groups filled the hearing to urge the administration to withdraw its plan.

California keeping plastic pollution out of the ocean

Today, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed two bills designed to reduce plastic pollution flowing into the Pacific Ocean. AB 1884 would create a “straws on request” policy for dine-in restaurants in California and SB 1335 requires state facilities to recycle food packaging.
