BOSTON - The national business magazine Fast Company named Environment America Research and Policy Center’s campaign for 100 percent renewable energy as a finalist today for the media outlet’s World Changing Ideas Awards. The “10 states, 50 cities, 50 colleges, 100% renewable” campaign was one of nine finalists in the Politics & Policy category.
Emma Searson, 100 Percent Renewable campaign director with Environment America Research & Policy Center, issued the following statement:
“It’s great to have 100% Renewable energy honored as a world-changing idea. At Environment America Research & Policy Center, we’ve been working to build support for 100 percent renewable energy since 2008, long before it was cool. The growing momentum of the past few years speaks to Americans’ hunger for a solution to our energy challenges that respects ecology and matches the scale of the problems of air pollution and climate change.
“In 2018 we rolled out an ambitious plan to win 100 percent clean, renewable energy commitments in 10 states, 50 cities and 50 college campuses. At the time, a lot of people thought we were crazy. But we are well on our way to achieving those goals today, with seven states, more than 150 cities and 37 campuses across the country having already set goals of 100 percent clean or renewable energy. So it’s not just an idea any more. This campaign is proof that bold ideas can be world-changing.”
